Ladies training 07/15/2010
Wednesday night's training was an experience. A combo of spring tides and loads of rain meant that high tide was so high that we were able to row the gig straight onto the trailer! Club Vest goes to Mauritius 06/09/2010
It's as good here as we imagined if not better!! Two photos attached: one to show my complete and utter dedication to rowing (even on holiday) and the other for the website (the one with the calstock vest). Moushole Regatta May 22nd 2010 05/26/2010
Mousehole regatta started the Cornish Rowing Championship season with a gloriously sunny, hot day. The sea was very choppy witha brisk warm wind making it a challenge for us river rowers. We were proud to enter 18 junior rowers and 8 seniors. Our junior rowers did us proud by achieving podium positions in the following:- U16 mixed 4 oar 3rd position, -Rosie, Jess, Michael, Amy. U16BOYS/GIRLS/MIXED CORNISH, 3rd -Ruby, Jess, Michael U18 girls 2nd- Ruby, Jess, Amy,m Rosie The U14s thought they had a 3rd in the 4 oar but sadly were disqualified after not hearing the umpires' call for the bouy position and overtook Polperro before the bouy, causing a collision. Don't worry girls, its the first of the season, there's plenty of time to catch Polperro up. Good Friday Race at the weekend 05/18/2010
Our men's Flashboat A crew entered the gruelling Mylor to Truro race on saturday. 28 boats entered the competition and which were a mixture of sliding seat, gigs, flashboats, skiffs and other rowing vessels. Our boys skillfully coxed by Keri Avent came an amazing 5th place. Well done boys, once again you have done Calstock Rowing club proud. Training continues in ernest 05/10/2010
Now that we have all recovered from IOS, 2010 training for the season is back in full swing. Jerry, Leighanne and Jake have completed their first weekend of intensive level 2 coaching training. This will mean that their newly aquired knowledge will be filtered down to all members, so that the coaching members receive in our club should be uniform and non contradictory which has been the club's objective for some time. Another exciting development is that, Looe Club have invited us to train with them on saturday 22nd May. This will be hugely beneficial as there will be focused individual coaching using video with the intention of improving everyone's technique Calstock on Top of The World 05/08/2010

Hi Calstock giggers! Just wanted to drop everyone a quick email to say what a FANTASTIC time me and Joby had with you all in IOS!! WOW! We loved every second of it, it really was such a fun experience from start to end (very very different to the type of racing i have done before in the slidey seats). I am so excited to be part of such a welcoming club full of so much enthusiasm and such nice people!! I have some very funny memories from the weekend which not all of you were there to witness so feel it would only be right to share them with you... to name a few : 1. Theresas, mine and Jobys huge efforts to put up her tent (2 hrs later we had figured it out..) 2. Barrys efforts to go round the tables at the meal remembering everyones names whilst maybe being only slightly tipsy. I now have a new name... MAVIS! thanks Barry! haha 3. Jo's roaring noises in the boat which gave me a huge boost to use every bit of energy to try and beat the ladies in the 'Cream', darn, they still kicked our asse!! (Loved it), we have alot to learn from you ladies to make our 'A' crew number 1. We will do it though!!! haha 4. Also Gem and Gemmas roaring noises, i am learning!!! lol 5. Leannes super lean back in her stroke, i will get that 6 pack!! 6. Amys awesome perfect stroke technique for us all to follow!! 7. Jake for being such a funny cox, really made us laugh in the boat and got us far!! Thought he was gonna fall of his seat as he was getting so excited in the boat when we passed other boats just leaving a trail of spray in their faces!!! lol 8. Joy for her comedy falls (i repeat FALLS, not just one but atleast 2 or 3). Joy i dont think i have laughed so hard, particularly the fall on the beach where you then decided to pretend to swim on the sand to make us all laugh even harder. For those of you who missed that one...DARN that was funny. Sorry Joy but it really was hilarious! 9. Tish and her ladies and Jake and our ladies for having the BEST collision ever in the main race, we did it with such elegance and style, we managed to survive the collision without even snapping a pin! good work! haha 10. I have to put a shout out there to Roger for his very luxurious camping style, 7 BAGS he had with gear in, and you even let me use your clean pan to fry my veggie burger in, cheers Roger! So i wont keep babbling on but i just wanted to say again how great i think Calstock Rowing club is, you have all made me feel so welcome and are so encouraging to me and the other girls to be a grat crew and i know we will (and are) be! I think i have just about learnt everyones names now so i know who the emails are from when i read them!! Jerry and Fiona - your fab for doing so much to making the IOS weekend happen, and thanks again for making Joby so welcome and letting him have a go in the gig, he loved it and i think he may now have the bug to do it again! All our crews worked so hard at the weekend to do the best they could so it can only get better as the season goes on! Really looking forward to doing more races and hopefully bringing more trophies home as the season goes on!! Got to mention Joby, Steve and Martin for being our No. 1 supporters too! They took some great photos of which i will email to you all if you like, cheers guys! Oh and a note to Jenny, i was given a book of sea shanti songs on the ferry home so next year i can join in.... haha So its late now and i need my beauty sleep, see you all soon for some more roaring!!! GO CALSTOCK!! WOOP WOOP Dani (AKA - MAVIS) xx DEBBIE RENDLE MEMORIAL RACE 04/26/2010
yesterday afternoon was the Debbie Rendle Memorial Race from Truro to Restronguet...roughly 7 miles. The crew we took down was Leigh-Anne Alford, Ali Trotter, Sam North, Nick Bradley and Ben Bradley (Cox). There was roughly 30 boats in the race and we were the last Flashboat/CRA Boat away from the staggered start followed by some sliding seat boats and a few gigs. A handicap system was applied to all the boats dependent on the number of vet/ladies/under 16's/under 14's etc which meant that some boats set off fully 8 - 10 minutes in front of us. For Sam and myself 7 miles was quick a daunting distance considering neither of us has done much training and it has to be said that the last mile or so was pretty uncomfortable for both of us. Benjamin did a fantastic job coxing us down the river around towering boats hundreds of feet high and safely navigating us around the King Harry Ferry. Anyway to cut a long story short...WE WON!!!! with a time around the 45 minutes mark...whoot us. Ali is getting the trophy engraved and we shall then try and get a photo of the crew together with it. Mousehole regatta is on the 22nd May...bring on the flashboat season...having taken the first honours of the season! Lots of Love, Nick. 3 Rivers 03/07/2010
Well done to our men vets crew for doing so well in the 3 Rivers race at Saltash. Its a tough course and for some it was their first ever race. Talk about in at the deep end. You did us proud guys. ![]() On the start line Today\'s training 03/06/2010
